Research Ruby Bridges. Who is she? What time frame did she grow up? What is significant about her life?
Ruby Bridges was a player in the civil rights stuggle back in 1960, as only a first grader. She went to a white populated school, and faced discrimination.
She grew up in the civil rights movement era where blacks were heavily discriminated sometimes to the point of violence. Ruby did not recieve any violence, but every day before school, mobs of white people stood outside protesting her entrance to their childrens' public school.
Even if young Ruby was not aware of it at the time, she was making a difference in the outlook of white people on integration in schools. Eventually, parents started to allow their kids to come back into the same classroom as Ruby and other African Americans.
